Homer W. Bennett, 90, formerly of 1908 Columbus St., Manitowoc, died on Monday morning, Feb. 2, 2004, at Manitowoc Health Care Center.
He was born on March 26, 1913, in Rubio, Iowa, the son of the late Elmer and Clara Waggoner Bennett. On Nov. 9, 1935, he married the former Ethel Flaim at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Fond du Lac. The couple recently celebrated 68 years of marriage. Homer was a member of the Iron Workers Union Local 8 of Milwaukee, retiring in July of 1975. After his retirement he was self-employed as a landscaper, cutting many lawns and removing snow at numerous Manitowoc homes. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Manitowoc.
Survivors include his wife, Ethel Bennett of Manitowoc; nine children, Dennis (Annie) Bennett of Melbourne, Fla., Donald “DJ” Bennett of Elk Grove Village, Ill., Sharon (James) Kopidlansky of Pottsboro, Texas, Rosie Geiger of Two Rivers, Kathy and Les (Jerry) Graebel of Manitowoc, Paulette (Michael) Shallue of Manitowoc, Bernard (Barbara) Bennett of Manitowoc, Mary Jo (John) Wachholz of Manitowoc and Bobbi (Greg) Tuma of Clover; 28 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren. He is further survived by a daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Bennett of Manitowoc; a brother-in-law, Walter Flaim; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends. Homer was preceded in death by two sons, Michael Bennett and David Bennett and David’s wife Nancy; a son-in-law, John Felber; and eight brothers and sisters.
• Services: Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, 2004, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Tom Wojciechowski, OFM, with entombment at Calvary Mausoleum in Manitowoc. • Visitation: The family will greet relatives and friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2004, at Pfeffer Funeral Home and Cremation Care Center in Manitowoc, where a prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. led by Deacon Robert Drobka. Friends also may call from 9:30 a.m. until the 10:30 time of service on Thursday, Feb. 5, at St. Mary Catholic Church. The family would like to thank the entire staff on Reflections (especially Jan Lettenburger, Leah Hallada, Chris Schaefer, Mary Nordskog, Barb Luedtke and Laurie Burke) at the Manitowoc Health Care Center for the wonderful care they gave Homer. Family members also wish to express their gratitude to everyone at Manitowoc Family Practice. Pfeffer Funeral Home and Cremation Care Center of Manitowoc is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
