He was born on June 1, 1924, in Manitowoc, son of the late John and Ida (Pfeffer) Mueller. Don graduated from Lincoln High School in 1942 and was his senior class president. He joined the Army on Dec. 7, 1942, and served in both the Pacific and European theaters. After the war, Don attended the University of Wisconsin, earning a business degree. Don married the former Ellen Stangel on June 30, 1951. He worked for the paper industry starting with Marathon Corp. in Neenah, and as several companies bought others, he finished his career in Weston, Conn. The couple moved to Hendersonville, N.C., and lived there until Ellen’s death in 2006.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law: Peter and Mary Beth Mueller, Oconomowoc; two daughters and a son-in-law: Terri Williams, Mason, Ohio, Diane and Pat Salvo, Newtown, Conn.; a brother; Richard Mueller, Manitowoc; and six grandchildren: Brynne and Krista Williams, Stephanie and Brooke Mueller, Ross and Kristine Salvo. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. He was also preceded in death by a son: Louis; four brothers: Eugene, Harold, Paul and John an infant sister: Eunice; and three sisters: Mildred, Germaine and Virginia.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2010, at St. Francis of Assisi on Waldo, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Paul DeMuth. Cremation has occurred and Donald will be laid to rest at Calvary Mausoleum, Manitowoc.
The family will greet relatives and friends at St. Francis of Assisi on Waldo, Manitowoc, from 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2010, until 10:45 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated in Donald’s name to the National Parkinson Foundation.
The Pfeffer Funeral Home & All-Care Cremation Center, Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
