NORBERT J. VOGEL

Norbert J. Vogel, age 81, of 1135 S. 26th St., Manitowoc, died Sunday morning, Aug. 27, 2006, at Shady Lane Nursing Care Center, Manitowoc.

He was born June 5, 1925, in the town of Cato, Manitowoc County, son of the late Jacob J. and Cecilia (Kohlbeck) Vogel. Norbert attended St. Michael's School in Whitelaw and the Manitowoc Vocational School majoring in Sheet Metal Fabrication and Pattern making classes. He worked
as an apprentice in the Sheet Metal Training Program. Norbert served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the USS Pasadena Cruiser from 1944 until 1946. On Aug. 13, 1947, he married the former Betty J. Menzel at St. Mary Catholic Church by the Rev. John Landowski. Norbert worked as a sheet metal mechanic for Schaus Roofing & Mechanical Contractors, Peterson Sheet Metal and Invincible Metal Furniture, retiring in 1990. He was affiliated with the Sheet Metal workers Local 18 Union and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed bowling and playing cards, especially sheepshead and poker. Norbert was a member of St. Francis of Assisi on Marshall, a lifetime member of the Manitowoc Senior Center, the Manitowoc County Historical Society and the Whitelaw Sportsman Club.

(Survivors omitted for privacy.) He was preceded in death by a sister: Dolores Reimer; two sisters-in-law: Frances (Midge) Vogel; Marie Lishka; and three brothers-in-law: Howard Brunner; Raymond Reimer and Floyd Menzel.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 31, 2006, at The Pfeffer Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, and 11:30 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi on Marshall, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian
Burial will be the Rev. Tom Wojciechowski O.F.M. with entombment at Calvary Mausoleum, Manitowoc.
