Note: The year of death of Charles' gravestone is 1939. According to Shaul Cemetery's records and the date of his obituary, which I have transcribed below, Charles died on January 31, 1940. This also agrees with his date of death in his wife Mary's obituary. Update of May 31, 2021: Charles' death certificate, giving his date of death as January 31, 1940, may now be seen in both familysearch.org and ancestry.com.

Charles was first married to Sarah Snyder on March 18, 1877, in Adair County, Missouri. (Name on marriage record is Charley.)

Charles Mabit [sic] married Mollie A. McEwen on January 24, 1888, in Adair County, Missouri. This was probably the Charles in this memorial, as it appears his son William Albert Mabis was born to this marriage.

He married Mary A. Swanson on June 6, 1906, in Ottumwa.
