Mrs. Oliver Crocker Stevens and Mr. and Mrs. W. Beecher Fonda, accompanying the body of Oliver Crocker Stevens, who died Saturday in Pasadena, Cal., left there Monday night for this city, where they are expected Friday evening or Saturday morning. The funeral will be held here, probably next Tuesday. Mr. Stevens was a son of Dr. Calvin and Sophiah (Crocker) Stevens, and was born in Boston in 1856. He was graduated from the Boston Latin school and entered Bowdoin College in 1872, being graduated from that institution in 1876. He then took a course in the Boston University Law school, from which he was gradutated 1879. He was admitted to practice at the Massachusetts bar in that year. After a twelve months' tour abroad he returned to Boston and began the practice of law, June 10, 1885, he married Miss Julia Burnette, daughter of the late ex-Gov. and Mrs. John Gregory Smith of this city, and is survived by his wife and one brother, Dr. William Stanford Stevens, also of St. Albans.

Dr OLIVER CROCKER STEVENS was born on 3 June 1855 in Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts to Dr Calvin Stevens & Sophia Tappan Crocker-Stevens.

Oliver Crocker Stevens is a descendant of Several prominent Pilgrim & Puritan Families of Massachusetts; Richard Stevens of Ipswich & Marlboro, Abraham Toppan, Henry Sewall, and John Poore of Newbury, James Hosmer and George Hayward of Concord, Kenelm Winslow of Plymouth, Roger Conant of Salem, Edward Bangs of Eastham, John Stow of Roxbury, Edward Wigglesworth of Charlestown, William Crocker of Seituate, and William Hartwell of Concord.

He received his prepatory education in the Boston grammar and Latin schools, graduated A.B. from Bowdoin College, 1876. He also earned his LL. B Degree from Boston University Law School in 1879, and Bowdoin College gave him a Conferred Degree of A.M in 1884. He was a member of Psi Upsilon & Phi Beta Kappa fraternities, served the Bowdoin College Board from 1891 - 1901, and was President of the Bowdoin Alumni Association in 1899.

Stevens began the practice of Law in Boston at the Chandler building in 1879. He was admitted to the Bar of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court on 8 July 1879. On 26 July 1880, Stevens was added to the Bar of the US Circuit Court, and on 4 March 1884, he was added to The Bar of The US Supreme Court.

Oliver married Julia Burnett Smith on 10 June 1885 in St Albans, Franklin County, Vermont. No records of children have been located for this marriage. However, The 1890 census burned, and the couple cannot be located on the 1900 census to confirm whether they did or did not have children. Oliver and Julia were able to travel to Liverpool England together, and they returned on the ship "Tunisian" at a port in Quebec, Canada on 20 June 1903.

Oliver passed away on 25 Mar 1911 in Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts, and he was laid to rest with his wife's family at St Albans Cemetery in St Albans, Franklin County, Vermont.
