John passed away on Saturday, June 6, 2015, at the Golden Living Center of Mobridge, SD.

John was born to Fred and Mary Beer on June 20th, 1933, on the family farm 11 miles west of Isabel, SD. He grew up on the family farm and attended the VanDusen rural grade school. John grew up working on the family farm.

On December 10th, 1966, John married Maureen Parrow. Following their marriage they lived on the family farm until 1969, when they purchased a farm 11 miles southwest of Timber Lake, SD. John took great pride in his farm and his herd of Red Angus cattle. On October 6th, 1978, they were blessed with a son, Kevin John. John loved to visit and joke with people. He loved to play cards and dance the waltz. He often told of going to 4 dances in one evening! When he could no longer dance, he spent many Sunday afternoons listening to old time music on the radio and several hours a week watching polka shows on RFDTV.

John served on the Isabel Coop and Isabel Clinic boards for several years. John's declining health forced him to sell the farm in 1995 and they moved into Timber Lake. Retirement got a little old and he took the job as rural mail carrier in Isabel, SD, until the spring of 2014, when his health forced him to retire from it. Because of health issues he was in and out of several care centers the last 3 years.

John loved his granddaughters and always looked forward to going east at Christmas to spend time with them. The last couple years he was not able to do this but was able to see them growing up thanks to the internet.

John is survived by his wife, Maureen (Parrow) Beer of Timber Lake, his son, Kevin (Holly) Beer of Brinklow, MD, and 3 granddaughters, Anna Louise, Alexandra Rae and Adeleyn Jayne. He is survived by his brothers, Adolph (Marge) Beer of Isabel, SD, Fred (Karen) Beer of Lemmon, SD, and Bernard (Karen) Beer of Rapid City, SD, and one brother-in-law, Jim (Donna) Hulm of Jasper, MN, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by in-laws, LaRae (Leo) Huelsmann of Dardenne Prairie, MO, Patti Wolff of Havana, ND, and Gene (Lisa) Parrow of Britton, SD.

John was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters, Louise Beer, Mary Alley and Alice Hulm and 1 brother, Leroy Beer and 1 brother-in-law, Bill Alley.
