The feisty, strong-willed, Fox and Friends aficionado, 88-year-old Maxine I. Dunbar began her journey to rejoice in eternal happiness with her beloved son Dennis, parents Scott and Florence Overfield, twin brother Max and 13 other siblings, as well as Mimi
Ann, her Maltese and best friend, on December 22, 2014.
In her early career, she worked in the banking industry in California, then Maxine made her way back to Leavenworth, Kansas, her lifelong home. She enjoyed working at the V.A. Center in dietetics as well as for the Leavenworth Public Library and Leavenworth school system, as well as working into her 87th year as a proofreader for E-Court Reporting, LLC.
Her passion for animals was a huge theme in her life. She was a regular donor to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, as well as volunteering/fostering with the Leavenworth Humane Society, and a “mother” to 10 four-legged “children” throughout her lifetime.
Mom always said her children brought her the greatest joy in her life, and is survived by Angeline Kay, Potosi, Missouri; Janice L. Patterson, Leavenworth, Kansas; Jo-Anne Piper (Galt), Kansas City, Kansas; Mary Kay Martin, Parkville, Missouri; Randy L. Martin (Gail); Platte City, Missouri; as well as 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Cremation. A memorial graveside service and celebration of Maxine’s life will be held in early January 2015.
