Sarah's father Thomas Thatcher married Susan Sloan on February 9, 1868, in Schuyler County, Missouri. In the Census for Schuyler County, taken on June 7, 1870, Susan, age 21, and Sarah Etta, age 1, were living with the Levi Melvin family, and Susan's occupation was showing as "keeping house." Thomas was living with a farmer Joseph Harper and his family, and he was working as a "farm laborer." I have not been able to find when Susan died or where she is buried.

Thomas married Rodelia Wayland on April 24, 1873, in Schuyler County, and in the 1880 Census for Schuyler County, "Ettie," age 11, was living with them, and three other children, Homer, age 10; Frank, age 6; and Daisy, age 6 months.

Note: The year of birth on Sarah's gravestone is 1868, which differs with the year of 1867 in her obituary, which I have transcribed below. Her date of birth in her death record at the Wapello County Court House is December 11, 1869. For the purposes of this memorial, I am using the year of 1868, as shown on her gravestone. Also, this year would have been correct with her age in the 1870 census, noted above.
