Anthony was a son of William and Caroline Haden Arnold. He was a member of Co. B, 122 Regiment, OVI, 2nd Brigade (90 Corps). It is interesting to note that in their writings about people of the Oak Grove/Londonderry/Smyrna area, the Lake sisters, Mildred and Marie, wrote that a local gentleman, George Meredith, was in possession of a picture of Anthony's regiment which showed Anthony in the photo. The sisters didn't know whaat happened to Mr. Meredith's possessions after he died.

Anthony married on September 22, 1869 to Miss Nancy Hunt. In 1880, his niece and nephew, Myrtle B. Persons and James A. Persons were living with them, as his sister had died in 1877. Anthony died in Oxford township of consumption, according to Guernsey Co. records. Nancy lived in Smyrna and Freeport, Harrison Co., after Anthony's death with Pearle Estep Arnold whom she identified as both a son and a nephew, although it's clear he was a nephew. She ended up in Osborn, Ohio, where she died. (In the Dayton newspaper, the family placed a "thank you" after her funeral and she was referred to as, "our aunt.")
