William was a son of William Arnold and Narcilla Buckingham. He married October 17, 1833 in Guernsey Co., Ohio, to Caroline Anne Haden, and served in the Civil War as a surgeon in the 3rd Ohio Volunteer Regiment, enlisting in 1863. William was a farmer and died of stomach cancer. He was the father of Henry James, Sarah Jane (Persons), David, Azriah, John W., Anthony, Samuel, Isabel, Lewis Wilson, and Leander.
