US Congressman. He immigrated to the United States in 1816, settled in Massachusetts and graduated from Harvard University in 1821. He was a member of the State House of Representatives from 1840 to 1849 and a unsuccessful Whig candidate for election to the Thirty-second Congress in 1850. A delegate to the State constitutional convention in 1853, he was elected as a Whig to the Thirty-third Congress and served from 1853 to 1855. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he became a member of the State Senate in 1857, serving as president in 1858, and again a member of the State House of Representatives in 1859 and 1860.
