Dorothy F. Askin Gardner, 82, of Arnold died Monday (Aug. 10, 1998) in her home. Born July 28, 1916, in New Kensington, she lived there all of her life. She was a 1936 graduate of New Kensington High School. Mrs. Gardner was a member of the Church of God of Lower Burrell, where she taught Sunday school for 50 years and was a member of the Missionary Society of the church. She was an avid reader and enjoyed reading the Bible daily. Survivors include her husband of 58 years, James P. Gardner; a son, James J. Gardner of Lancaster, Ohio; two daughters, Mrs. Wayne (Dorothy P.)Bicker of Allison Park and Mrs. James (Beverly M.) Higley of Black Mountain, N.C.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; a brother, Wilbert Askin of Lower Burrell; and a sister, Mrs. James (Bettie) Schafer of New Kensington. She was preceded in death by twin grandchildren; her parents, Wilbert and Flora Bish Askin; a brother, Clifford Askin, and two sisters; Edith Askin (infant), and Grace Swonger.
