Mr. Wendell Oliver Adams, of Walterboro, departed this life for Heavenly rest September 4 in Charleston.

He was a son of the late Thomas Monroe Adams and the late Marion Addison Adams.

Mr. Adams served his country in the United States Air Force as a First Lieutenant and received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Agricultural Engineering from Clemson University class of 1954 and his Law Degree from the University of South Carolina in Columbia class of 1961. He was then admitted to the South Carolina Bar in 1961.

Wendell dedicated his career to the practice of law and to helping others and serving his community. He started his law career with J.P. Harrelson in 1961 and shortly after went into private practice until he accepted the position as County Judge for Colleton County. He remained in this capacity until sworn in as Magistrate in 1979, and served for the last sixteen years of his career as Chief Public Defender for Colleton County.

He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, downtown Walterboro, and was a longtime member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Walterboro Lodge No. 1988. At the Walterboro Elks Lodge he was a past Exalted Ruler, Lodge Trustee and was also a member of the South Carolina Elks Hall of Fame. He was a member of Loyal Order of the Moose Walterboro Lodge No. 1938 and was a Master Mason.

Surviving are: his son, Gregory Wendell Adams and his wife Kristin of Charleston; a daughter, Suzanne Adams of Cottageville; a brother, Gerald Monroe Adams of Spartanburg; and two sisters, Marilyn Camburn of Walterboro and Elaine Yates of Summerville; and five grandchildren.

Interment, with military honors, was in Jordan Cemetery, Cottageville.
