June J. Meyer, age 73, of 335 S. Jackson St., Valders, died peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Tuesday evening, Aug. 19, 2008, at her home, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

June was born on June 20, 1935, in Valders, daughter of the late Bennett and Myrna (Damm) Evenson. She was a graduate of Valders High School, class of 1953. On Dec. 9, 1954, she married Daniel Meyer in Georgia.

He survives. June was employed with Dr. William Acheson and Dr. Richard James in Valders for many years before earning her emergency medical technician certificate from Lakeshore Technical College in 1975. She also volunteered on the Valders Ambulance and was a cardiopulmonary resuscitation instructor for the Red Cross and the American Heart Association. June was also the secretary and treasurer for Meyer's Builders in Valders.

June was preceded in death by one son: Jay Meyer; one sister and four brothers-in-law: Ruby and Clifford Meyer; Ted Jeske; Bill Wiegert; and Bob Meyer; two brothers: Roger and Donald Evenson; two sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law: Carol Nett and Jeanette and Roger Jost; and three nephews: Craig Meyer; Wally Evenson; and Trevor Behnke.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008, at Faith Lutheran Church, Valders. Officiating at the funeral service will be the Rev. Robert Onkka, with burial to follow services at
Valders West Cemetery.

The family will greet relatives and friends from 9:30 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008, at Faith Lutheran Church, Valders.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in June's name may be directed to Valders Ambulance or the American Cancer Society.

The Christianson & Deja Funeral Home, Valders, is assisting the Meyer family with funeral arrangements.
