Betty Lou Schmitt, age 88, formerly of 955 South 30th Street, Manitowoc, passed away peacefully Sunday afternoon, January 3, 2016, at the Villa at the Felician Village.
The former Betty Lou Gerharz was born on November, 20, 1927 in Manitowoc, daughter of the late Hugo and Verona (Heinzen) Gerharz. Betty attended local area schools and was a 1945 graduate of Manitowoc Lincoln High School and Marvel School of Cosmetology in 1946. On September 27, 1952 she was married to Roy R. Schmitt at St. Paul Catholic Church, Manitowoc. He preceded her in death on March 31, 2000. Betty worked as a Hairdresser for 50 years until her retirement in 1998. She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish and a former member of Manitowoc Yacht Club. She loved traveling with her husband, Roy.
Survivors include one sister: Ruth Ann Schmidt, Marshfield; one brother-in-law: Ken Bushman, Manitowoc; one sister-in-law: Millie Gilmet, Manitowoc, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Roy; three sisters and four brothers-in-law: Mary Ann (Francis) Henning; Delores (Leonard) Schweigl; Jean Bushman; Ken Schmidt; Chip Gilmet; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Harry (Lillian) Schmitt.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 9, 2016 at St. Francis of Assisi Parish on Waldo, 1121 North 14th Street, Manitowoc. Rev. Richard Klingeisen will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial with burial to take place at Evergreen Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of mass at 11:30 a.m. The Reinbold & Pfeffer Family Funeral Home of Manitowoc is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
