Edward Anthony Carolin, 94, a lifelong resident of the Syracuse area, died Thursday, October 5, 2006 at Elant Nursing Home in Goshen, NY. The son of Anthony Joseph Carolin and Sarah Mary Delaney, he was born on March 12, 1912 in Syracuse, NY. He graduated from Vocational High School. He was employed for many years as a superintendent at the Syracuse Universal Carloading and Distributing Co. Mr. Carolin was a member of the Railway & Steamship Clerks Union. He was a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Church where he served for many years on the parish council. He was a member of the Legion of Mary and the Holy Name Society. He was active in the Syracuse United Neighbors, Syracuse Neighborhood Housing, and participated in community groups on the south side. He was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Anne Marie Degan, who died in 1990 and also his brother, Francis (Pete) Carolin. Survivors include his children, Patricia Carolin Shanley and husband, Brian of Monroe, NY, Edward A. Carolin, Jr. and his wife, Donna Snyder Carolin of Chemung, NY, Karen Carolin Keefe and husband, Thomas of Grand Junction, CO, Michael K. Carolin and his wife, Elizabeth Brown Carolin of Dover-Foxcroft, ME. He is also survived by a sister, Rosemary Carolin Caldwell of Syracuse; and a brother, Anthony J. Carolin of St. Petersburg, FL, as well as six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and especially his devoted nephew, Francis (Pete) Carolin, Jr. Services will be Thursday, October 12, 2006 9:15 a.m. at the Ballweg & Lunsford Funeral Home and 10 a.m. in St. Anthony of Padua Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Friends may call Wednesday, October 11 at the funeral home, 4612 S. Salina St. Contributions may be made to St. Anthony of Padua Church, 1515 Midland Ave., Syracuse, NY 13205.
