Robert was born on December 24, 1934 in Manitowoc, son of the late Michael and Lillian (Wegforth) Bartelme. He attended schools in Manitowoc and graduated with the class of 1953 from Manitowoc Lincoln High School. On June 13, 1959, he married the former JoAnne A. Shaffer at St. Johns United Church of Christ in Manitowoc. Bob served in the Naval Reserve for 8 years. He was a journeyman plumber and master plumber for many years until his retirement. He was a member of St. Johns United Church of Christ, member of the Plumbers and Steamfitters Union #400 for 59 years, also a member and past president of the Lamplighter Dance Club, member of Manitowoc Masonic Lodge #65, Shriners and the Precious Moments Collector Club. Bob enjoyed bowling and traveling to Precious Moment Events.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years: JoAnne Bartelme, Manitowoc; one sister: Marilyn Oestreich, Fond du Lac; one brother and three sisters-in-law: Glenn (Gerry) Bartelme, Manitowoc; Elaine Shaffer, Plymouth; Avis Bartelme, Dousman; two special friends: Sharon Van Ells, Green Bay; Cheryl Hanson, Manitowoc, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents: Michael and Lillian Bartelme; mother-in-law and father-in-law: Agnes and Ben Shaffer; fourteen siblings, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 5, 2016 at St. John United Church of Christ, 1501 Marshall Street, Manitowoc. The Rev. Judine Duerwaechter will officiate with entombment to follow at Knollwood Mausoleum. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. The Jens Family Funeral Home & Crematory of Manitowoc is assisting the family with arrangements.
