LILBOURN - Ruth V. Adams, 81, died July 2, 1997, at Baptist Hospital East in Memphis, Tenn. Born June 24, 1916, in Ripley, Tenn., she was the daughter of the late Ben and Lillie Pearl Vaughn Elder. On Sept. 17, 1932, she married Charles Robert Adams who preceded her in death on Jan. 27, 1993. Survivors include: three sons: Charles Robert Adams of South Elgin, Ill.; Robert W. Adams of Commerce; and Gary Adams of Ronkonkoma, N.Y.; three daughters, Mary Wilkerson and Betty Messinger of Lilbourn and Doris Castillo of Elgin, Ill.; one brother, Charles Elder of Bald Knob, Ark.; one sister, Ethel Dunn of Lilbourn; and 23 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Friends may call after 5 p.m. today at Ponder Funeral Home in Lilbourn, where services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday. The Rev. Bill Reid of Lilbourn will officiate. Burial will follow in in Mounds Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Chuck Adams, Scott Adams, Ricky Joe Patton, Robert Patton, Tommy Castillo and Ed Messinger. Note: Though listed in the obituary as 'Ruth' she was known only by her middle name Virginia.
