Bertha Leveta McCoy, 94, of Moulton, died Monday 1 Apr 2002 at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville. She was born 18 Sep 1907 in Exline, the daughter of Calvin and LeNora Sears Stevens. She married Guy McCoy 26 Apr 1930 in Moulton. He preceded her in death in 1961. Survivors include sons, Charles McCoy and his wife Linda of Centerville; and Tom McCoy and his wife, Dana, of Bloomfield; five daughters, Betty Devore and her husband, Lawrence, of Newton, Marilyn Espy, Helen Stevens and her husband Clude, both of Centerville; La Donna Arbogast and her husband Ward, of Moulton and Carol Clark and her husband, Vernon, of Udell; a brother, Dwight Stevens of Altoona; two sisters, Agnes Stubbs of Johnston and Ida Specht of Marshalltown; 16 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, LaVerne, Dale, Gerald and Wesley Stevens; two sisters, Mabel Cox and Gladys Hamilton, and a granddaughter. She graduated from Centerville High School in 1926, Centerville Community College in 1959 and Northeast Missouri State Teachers College in 1967 with a bachelor's degree in education. She taught school 24 years, beginning in Appanoose County and ending her her last 14 years teaching third grade at Moulton-Udell School. She joined the Sharon Chapel Church, later transferring to Exline Christian Church. She was a Boy Scout leader in Moulton for some time. She sponsored several children through Children Incorporated for over 21 years. Funeral services will be held at 10 am Thursday at the Moulton Christian Church with the Rev Jerry Weller and Reg Higginbottom officiating. Burial will follow in hte Oakland Cemtery in Centerville. Visitation will be from 1 to 8 pm today, Wed, at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home with family receiving friends from 6-8 pm In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the St Jude's Children's Hospital (Cancer) and contributions may be left or mailed to the funeral home
