William was born and grew up on the family farm just to the north and east of Long Branch (St. James) Lutheran Church. He married Valiska Meister on November 19, 1914. To them were born 9 children: Deloma,Ralph,Delmar,Delphine,
Delbert,Lorain,Robert,Donetta and Benjamin.
