Emily Ann Loritz, age 98, a Manitowoc resident died July 1, 2016 at Laurel Grove Memory Care.

Emily was born August 10, 1917, daughter of Charles and Emma (Shebesta) Konop. She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1935. As secretary and bookkeeper, she worked in the offices of the National Tinsel Company and the Supervisor of Shipbuilding, U.S. Navy.

On August 9, 1941 she married Leonard Loritz at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Kellnersville. They lived together in Manitowoc, celebrating 65 years of life together.

When Emily’s children were in school, she went back to work as secretary / bookkeeper at Roncalli High School. Upon retirement, Emily joined the Manitowoc Senior Center and worked in the Senior Volunteer Program for many years. She was a member of Holy Innocents Catholic Church, the Christian Women’s Society, the parish Befriender Ministry, and the Daughters of Isabella.

Emily was a devoted mother, teaching the values of self- motivation and solid work ethic: “If it is to be, it is up to me”. She believed you could not spoil a child with too much love. She practiced her Catholic faith throughout her life both in word and deed. She was generous and compassionate.

Emily loved dance, music and was passionate about bridge. Born in the Great Depression era, she was a “woman born before her time”. Not only was she a strong woman, she was a strong advocate for women’s rights, voicing the right to education, work, equal pay and the right to hold positions based on one’s aptitude, not gender.

Emily was preceded in death by her husband in 2007; three brothers Charles, Louis, and Leo Konop; and her sister Mary Remiker. She is survived by her brother Jim (and wife Pat) Konop; by her son and daughter-in-law, Donald Loritz and Jane Carroll, grandchildren Mary and Jonathan (wife Stephanie and great-granddaughters Aubrey and Hallie); and by three daughters and sons-in-law: Susan Loritz and Michael Winter, Jean and Rathindra DasGupta, grandchildren Steven and Ryan; and Janet Loritz and Craig Carnahan. Emily is also survived by her sister-in-law Shirley Konop, brother-in-law Joe Remiker, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 7 at St. Francis of Assisi on Waldo Boulevard, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be Father David Beaudry . She will be laid to rest at Calvary Mausoleum, Manitowoc, at a later date.
