He was born December 19, 1929, son of the late Charles and Emma (Shebesta) Konop. Jim attended Lincoln High School, graduating with the class of 1947. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1948, served in Korea, and was honorably discharged in 1952. On May 14, 1960, Jim married Patricia Wilda. He was an avid Green Bay Packer fan and was a season ticket holder since 1957. Jim was employed with Manitowoc Company for over 35 years and was also a member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAMAW) local 516, serving as Recording Secretary for several years.
Survivors include his wife: Patricia Konop, Manitowoc; three children: Lee Konop, Richard (Laura) Konop, and Connie Konop, all of Manitowoc; four grandchildren: Robin Konop, Sheboygan, Brittany (Kyle) Sabelko, Sheboygan, Preston Konop, Wyoming, and Alexandra Konop, Manitowoc; two great-grandchildren: Briella and Myles Sabelko; and one sister-in-law: Nancy McDonnell, Manitowoc. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents: Charles and Emma (Shebesta) Konop; five siblings: Charles (Mamie) Konop, Louis (Dorrean) Konop, Emily (Leonard) Loritz, Mary (Joseph) Remiker, and Leo (Shirly) Konop; and two brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law: LeRoy (Jean) Wilda and Jim McDonald.
Cremation has occurred at the All-Care Cremation Center, Manitowoc, and a memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 21, 2022 at Calvary Catholic Mausoleum, 2601 South 14th Street, Manitowoc. Officiating at the service will be Deacon Alan Boeldt. Following the service, Jim's cremated remains will be laid to rest in the Mausoleum and military honors will be accorded by Veteran of Foreign Wars Otto Oas Post #659 of Manitowoc. The family will greet relatives and friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m.
