Frank was a WWI veteran. He was inducted Aug 6, 1918, at Bristow, OK and assigned to Company C, Twenty Third Machine Gun Battalion, U.S. Army, Camp Fremont Cal. He was on a ship headed towards France when the Armistice was declared, and the ship turned around mid-ocean and returned to the US. He was discharged at Camp Pike, AR Feb 9, 1919.

"Frank Robert [this should be Rhodes] Smith, a crane operator for 20 years with the Naval Ordnance Plant, died at 11:15 p.m. Sunday at St. Joseph Infirmary. He was 69 and lived at 217 Ashbury.
"Smith was a member of Suburban Lodge 740 F&AM and a member of the Bethany Methodist Church.
"Survivors include his widow, the former Etta King; a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Dugan; and two stepsons, Woodford and Carlyle Jennings.
"The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Miller Funeral Home, 4505 S. Third. Burial will be in Louisville Memorial Gardens."
