Walter Noel Arnestad of Tacoma, WA, passed away on July 9, 2016. Walter was born on November 27, 1920 in Minot, North Dakota, to Albert and Rachel (Allee) Arnestad, the third of eight children. The family settled in Tacoma in 1924. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1940 and served in the army for 3 ½ years in Japan and the Philippines with honorable discharge.

Walter married Betty June Quistorff on April 11, 1947. Walt worked for the City of Tacoma for 30 years. After retirement, he and his wife traveled on bus tours around the western United States and to places like Hawaii, Australia and Norway, as well as taking grandkids to Disneyland.

Active in sports since high school, he was a state wrestling champ and bowled on the City Bowling League for many years, and Veterans Bowling League tournaments. He was a lifelong member of the Elks Lodge #174 and American Legion Post #138.

Walter was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Carolyn, and six brothers and sisters.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, July 18, 2016 at New Tacoma Cemetery’s Chambers Creek Chapel, 9221 Chambers Creek Rd W, University Place, WA. Graveside service with military honors following.
