Helen E. Maurer, 75, of rural Kiel was called home to be with her Savior on Friday afternoon, July 22nd, 2016 at Rocky Knoll Health Care Center. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family.

Helen was born on February 10, 1941, to the late Arthur and Alice (Dexheimer) Sander. She attended Plymouth area schools. On January 21, 1961 she married Philip D. Maurer at Zion Evangelical Church at Louis Corners, Kiel, WI. Helen was a homemaker who lovingly raised 7 children on the Maurer Family Homestead near Cedar Lake. She was a devoted member of Zion Evangelical Church and former member of the Lakeshore Chorale and Shoreline OWLS. Her strong willed attitude will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to have known her. She loved socializing, polka music, playing Bingo and Gin Rummy, cooking, going for drives around the countryside but most of all family gatherings with her husband, children and grandchildren.

Helen is survived by her husband of 55 years, Philip; children, Loretta Maurer (Chris Bresser), Brian (Fernanda) Maurer, Robert (Jenny) Maurer, Gary (Sherry) Maurer, and Carol Maurer; grandchildren, Michelle Dontje (special friend Kevin), Carlos Eduardo Maurer, Jamie Maurer, Kaila Kissinger, Courtney (Marty) Pleviak, Jerad Rausch (special friend Chase), Jacob Maurer, and Gwenyth Maurer; sister, Marilyn Rooker, and sister-in-laws, Leona Sander, Kathryn (Monroe) Hansmann, Myra Maurer, and Dori Maurer. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, sons, Christopher and Michael, brothers, Eldor (Therese) and Gene Sander, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ray Rooker, Kermit (Nellie) Maurer, Bernice (Jack) Vandergrift, Doris (Bob) Wilbert, Alan Maurer and Dan Maurer. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Helen’s name. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Louis Corners. Officiating at the Service will be Rev. Ted Olsen, with burial to follow in Union Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends at Church on Tuesday, July 26, 2016 from 9:00AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM The family would like to thank the staff at Rocky Knoll and Sharon S. Richardson Hospice for the kind and compassionate care they gave to Helen.

We hold you close within our hearts, and there you will remain. To walk with us throughout our lives, until we meet again. Our family chain is broken now, and nothing will be the same, but as God calls us one by one, The chain will link again.
