Isabel was the great-granddaughter of Jean Baptiste Valle, last colonial Commandant of Ste. Genevieve. That post became redundant when the Louisiana Territory was transferred to the US in 1804. (He was the son of Francois Charles Valle.)

Her fond name was Belle. She became the wife of George Austin and lived with him in Manhattan. No children are known.

Her father made his fortune in iron mining & processing. Sometime after the Civil War the family moved into their new home, 2710 Washington Avenue in St. Louis.
