Donald E. Greunke, 83, of 1712 Monroe St., New Holstein, died Saturday, Sept. 11, 2010, at the Homestead Care Center in New Holstein. Don was born on Nov. 21, 1926, in Tisch Mills, son of the late Edwin and Blanche (Dvorny) Greunke.

He attended Kewaunee schools. Don joined the service in 1945 at age 18. He was in the 82nd Airborne with the 508 in Frankfurt, Germany. He returned to the states to the 504 parachute regimen and received an honorable discharge in 1948.

Don married Lola Olson on Dec. 14, 1957 at Faith Lutheran Church in Valders. They were married 41 years. They owned and operated Cedar Lake Resort from 1985 to 1996. Don worked at Manitowoc Equipment Works for three years and then attended barber college in Green Bay. He barbered 10 years in Two Rivers for Red's Barber Shop before starting his own business in Manitowoc and Whitelaw as Don's Barbershop for 11 years. He also worked at Manitowoc Engineering for 10 years. He enjoyed the Packers and was a Brett Favre fan, and enjoyed walking, polka dancing, golfing, and listening to music.

Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-laws, Brenda (Jim) Evenson, Valders; Bridget (Glenn) Braun, New Holstein; and Beth (Joe) Blatz, Kiel; six grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; three great grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Chester (Lucille) Greunke, Burlington: two sisters and brothers-in-law, Charlotte (Lee) Duffy Warren, Arizona; Janice (John) Gamble, Manitowoc. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service was held at Knollwood Chapel Mausoleum. Deacon Kenn Nelesen officiated. Entombment of his cremated remains took place at Knollwood Mausoleum. Military services were accorded by VFW Otto Oas Post #659 of Manitowoc.

Memorials may be made to the Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinic in Sheboygan. The family would like to extend a thank you to Dr. Kumar and his staff at the Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinic in Sheboygan and the Homestead Care Center in New Holstein for all their wonderful care given to Don.
