Lawrence "Vaughn" Allen, age 88, of Burnsville, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at this home. A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late Rev. Fred C. and Julia Dodd Allen. He was also preceded in death by his siblings and their spouses: Grace Anglin (Cecil), Eula Hensley (Earnest), Vernon Allen (Fornada), Ralph Verdra Allen (Wilma), David Allen (Lonada), Arthur Allen (Oareen), Linda Baker Lovelace (Mickey) and Sharon Allen. Vaughn was a US Army Veteran and was stationed in Germany during the Korean Conflict. He made a career as a self-employed cement contractor, owning and operating Allen Concrete. He attended West Burnsville Church of God. Vaughn never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with anyone. He loved to garden and to hunt, especially bear and coon. Vaughn adored his family and will be remembered as devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and father-in-law.

Surviving is his loving wife of 64 years, Cynthia Wright Allen; son, Kurtis McKinley Allen (Tamara), of Burnsville; grandson, Jarrett Allen of Burnsville; siblings: Mary Magdalene Atkins (EJ) of Spruce Pine, Charles Allen (Barbara) of Spruce Pine, Harold Allen (Margie) of Valdese, Larry Allen (Jeannette) of Burnsville and Cynthia Hoover (David) of Texas and brother-in-law, Eddie Lovelace of Spruce Pine. Many, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. on Sunday, November 18th in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Rev. Randal Phillips will officiate. Burial will follow in the Wright Family Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the Sgt. E.L. Randolph Chapter #57 D.A.V. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. prior to the services at the funeral home.

The family would like to say a very special thank you to Mike and Sierra and all the staff of Hospice and Palliative Care of the Blue Ridge for all their care and compassion.
