David "Pete" Allen, age 71, of Roland Branch Road in the Jacks Creek Community, N.C., went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 2, 2008 at Brookside Rehabilitation and Care Center.
A native of Yancey County he was the son of the late Rev. Fred and Julia Dodd Allen.
He is also preceded in death by a grandson, Ethan Robinson; three sisters: Grace Anglin, Eula Hensley and Sharon Allen and a brother, Ralph Verdry Allen.
David loved to study the Civil War and go out into the mountains and ginseng hunt. He was a member of West Burnsville Church of God.
Surviving is his wife, Lonada Wright Allen; four daughters: Stephanie Robinson and husband, Travis, of Spruce Pine, Kim Riddle and husband, Sammy, of Jacks Creek, Marketta McIntosh of Troy and Tracy Phillips of Cleveland, NC; three sisters: Mary Atkins and husband, EJ, of Spruce Pine, Ruth Lovelace and husband, Eddie, of Maggie Valley and Cynthia Hoover and husband, David, of Brownsville, TX; six brothers: Vaughn Allen and wife, Cynthia, of Burnsville, Vernon Allen and wife, Fornada, of Jonesboro, TN, Arthur Allen and wife, Ora, of Spruce Pine, Charles Allen and wife, Barbara, of the Crabtree Community, Harold Allen and wife, Margie, of Valdese and Larry Allen and wife, Jeannette, of Burnsville; five grandchildren: Brandon Penland, Colette Blankenship, Cody McIntosh, Iain Robinson and Megan Phillips; one great-grandchild: Rylie Blankenship. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services were held September 5, 2008 in the West Burnsville Church of God. Rev. Gary Helton and Rev. Jeff Goudlock officiated.
Burial was in the Lark Wright Family Cemetery on Jacks Creek.
