Beulah May Spencer, 91, of Jacksonville, died Thursday, October 19, 2006, at the Jacksonville Convalescent Center. She was born March 13, 1915, east of Athensville, the daughter of Byron and Avia Leona Edwards Waters. She married Wesley Edward Spencer February 2, 1935, in Winchester and he preceded her in death June 7, 2002. She is survived by one daughter, Velma (husband, Don) Ingram of Springfield; two grandsons, Alex J. (wife, Bridgette) Ingram and Wesley Charles (wife, Sandy) Ingram, both of Springfield; one granddaughter, Melinda Sue Chestnut of Rockford; one step great-grandson, Michael; two sisters, Mabel (husband, Marvin) Walkington of Jacksonville and Ruby (husband, Woodrow) Butcher of Roodhouse; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Waters of Springfield; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Violet Spencer Chestnut; one grandson, Bradley Chestnut; one sister, Helen Hettick; and two brothers, James Marshall Waters and Byron Ellsworth. Mrs. Spencer was a member of the Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church in Jacksonville for the past several years. At her former church she had been a member of the WMU and served as a teacher in Sunday school and Bible school. She also served as the Nursery Department Leader in the children's department of the Sandy Creek Association. In the 1950's she was a member of the Passavant Hospital Grey Ladies. She graduated from Athensville Grade School in 1929 and from Greenfield High School in 1933. She was a homemaker and seamstress, and had been employed by J.C. Capps and Hart Shafner Marks in Joliet. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 22, 2006, at Mackey Daws Funeral Home in Murrayville with burial at Murrayville City Cemetery.
