Esther M. Pleuss, age 92, a Manitowoc resident, entered eternal life on Friday, December 23, 2016 at Laurel Grove Assisted Living.

Esther was born on December 16, 1924 in Manitowoc. She was the daughter of the late Dewey and Edith Burt Kasten. Esther was a graduate of Mishicot High School with the class of 1942. She continued her education attending Manitowoc County Normal for two years. Esther then taught school at Jambo Creek and later at Newtonburg. She had been employed also for 25 years at the Book and Gift Shop and later at Green Tree retiring in 1989. On August 16, 1947 she married Victor Cherney at First German Ev. Lutheran Church. He preceded her in death on December 22, 1975. She later married Paul Pleuss on April 27, 1983 at Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church. He preceded her in death on February 12, 1992. Esther was a member of Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church and the Ladies of Immanuel.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law: Jane and John Miller, Kingsford, MI; Susan and Lee James Irwin, Falls Chruch, VA; three step children: Kathryn and Rev. Fred Zimmerman, MI; Bradley and Catheryn Pleuss, Niles, IL; Sara and Bret Clancy, MN; one brother and sister-in-law: Everette and Joanne Kasten, Mishicot; four grandchildren, one step grandson, six great grandchildren, nieces, nephews along with other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents: Dewey and Edith Kasten; her first husband: Victor Cherney; second husband: Paul Pleuss; and one step daughter: Mary Sue Pleuss; brother-in-law and sister-in-law: Lester and Doris Cherney.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, December 30, 2016 at Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church, 916 Pine Street, Manitowoc. Officiating will be Rev. Stephen Melso with burial to take place at Evergreen Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home on Thursday, December 29, 2016 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The visitation will continue at the Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m.
