Amye Rue (Sumners) Martin, 97, was called home to be with her husband Darold for eternal peace on February 15, 2017.She was born March 5, 1919 to Ralph and Esther (Thurman) Sumners in Gibson county.She was a member of the first graduating class of Oakland City High School in 1938, She was married to Darold J. Martin on August 3, 1941. She was a member of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church for over 40 years.
She is preceded in death by her husband Darold J. Martin, son David W. Martin, brothers Curtis and Ralph Jr. Sumners, sisters Ruth Hoglan, Mary Louise Vaughn and Martha Newcomb.She is survived by her sister Georgia Price of Petersburg, Children; Darold G. (Carol) Martin of Casa Grande AZ, Elaine R. Benner of Lakewood CO, Bettye A. (Foy) Lanham of Barboursville, WV, John R. (Susan) Martin of Raton, NM, James L. Martin of Denver, CO, Linda M. Sorrell of Oakland City. Fourteen grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, 7 great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Service will be Tuesday February 21, 2017 at 10:00 AM at Lamb Basham Memorial Chapel, with burial in Montgomery Cemetery, Dr. Douglas Lowe officiating.
