William S. Burgess, 84, of 1375 Mecklenburg Road, died in Oak Hill Manor Nursing Home.

Born in Old Forge, Pennsylvania December 24, 1888, he was a son of the late William S. and Mary M. Wylam Burgess.

Mr. Burgess was a retired custodian of the Tompkins County Courthouse.

He was a World War I veteran, having enlisted in 1918. He was a member of World War I Barracks 2616 and Senior Citizens.

Survived by a son, William S. Burgess, Picayune, Miss.; a daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Meiczinger, Ithaca; a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Halstead, Ithaca; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held in the Shea-Tryon Funeral Home, Ithaca. The minister from the First Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery. Full military services will be conducted by the Tompkins County VFW at the cemetery.
