Allie E. Eddington, daughter of Robert and Mary Eddington, was born July 17, 1859, in Keithsburg, Illinois. Here her happy childhood days were passed and 'ere many years, became a most beautiful and beloved young woman, and on May 1, 1884, was united in marriage with Mr. James O'Brien. Mr. and Mrs. O'Brien made Keithsburg their home during the first years of their wedded life but for the past ten years they had resided in Chicago. Mrs. O'Brien was taken ill at her Chicago home Saturday, August 26th, and was immediately removed to the Passavant hospital. The consulting physicians pronounced the ailment to be acute peritonitis and accordingly performed a successful surgical operation Tuesday afternoon. Mrs. O'Brien rallied very encouragely but the disease was probably far advance for later her strength failed her and death came at 1:30 Wednesday morning. The deceased was a woman of charming personality. Her very presence served to surfuse a strong magnetic power, and acquaintances soon became admiring friends.
There remains to mourn the death of this lovely woman her husband, M. J. O'Brien, two brothers, J. B. Eddington of Chicago and Chas. R. Eddington of Keithsburg, and two sisters, Mrs. Gilbert J. Bell of Kansas City, Missouri, and Mrs. J. L. Noble of Keithsburg, all of whom were present at the funeral services in this city.
The remains arrived in Thursday morning and funeral services occurred Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the old Eddington home on Main street, conducted by Rev. J. W. Ferris of the M. E. church. Interment was made in Green Mound cemetery.
