Merna Hatfield

      BUHL— Merna Hatfield, 88, died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2006, at her home in Buhl.

      Merna was born in Albion, Neb., on Sept. 15, 1918, the second child of Louis and Geannie Larsen. She grew up in Madison, Neb., and graduated from high school in 1936. She followed her older brother, Elliott, to Idaho, where she cooked for a thrashing crew. She married William R. Hatfield on Dec. 17, 1939.

      Merna was involved with the Moose Lodge in Buhl, and she enjoyed quilting. She spent many wonderful years with the quilting group at the senior citizen center. She also loved children and took in several as her family was growing up. Friends of the family were always welcome in her home. She was grandma to the daycare center next door and enjoyed showing them around the farmstead.

      Merna is survived by her sons, Darrell (Jan) of Declo and Bill (Cheryl) of Buhl; grandchildren, Maridee (Mike) Lemieux of Boise, Heide (Richard) Eisele of Nampa, Deena (Michael) Hall of Weiser, Brandon of Buhl and Shawna of Denver, Colo.; great-grandchildren, Jadelyn and Keagan Eisele and Lucas Lemieux; brothers, Carlin Larsen of Chadron, Neb., and Arvid Larsen of Norfolk, Neb., and sister, Marge Durham of North Fort Meyers, Fla. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill; her daughter, Doris Mai; two sisters, Velda and Marnilu; and four brothers, Elliott (Olie), Harold, Alden and Frank.

      The family wants to give special thanks to Hospice Vision for their support and assistance during mother's illness. Thanks also to her friends and neighbors for their support and visits.

      Merna was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother and she will be dearly missed.

      No service is planned. Arrangements are under the direction of Farmer Funeral Chapel in Buhl.
