He attended school in Madison, Nebraska. He worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps during the 1930's. He then moved to Idaho and worked as a farm hand for a number of years. Harold married Alwine Korte on November 12, 1939 in Columbus, Nebraska. On May 11, 1944 Harold was drafted into the Marine Corps serving during WWII. He was wounded in Action on May 10, 1945 at Okinawa. On January 26, 1946 he was honorably discharged.
After his discharge, Harold joined the family back in Columbus where he went to work for Alexand's Furniture & Carpet Store. During the early 1960's, Harold went to work on his own as a carpet and tile installer.
Harold enjoyed spending time visiting friends and drinking coffee at numerous locations in Columbus. He was an avid sports fan, loved to travel, and enjoyed spending time with his family. The grandchildren remember Harold as the "Tickle Monster". Harold was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Columbus.
