A mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, teacher and family historian has passed, Alice Mae Ausburn Harrison, age 96, of Crawfordville, Florida died March 20, 2017. Born October 22, 1920 in Grady County, she was the twelfth of fourteen children born to the late James Alexander Ausburn and Ivey Delilah Bryant Ausburn. On December 19, 1945, she married to Hugh D. Harrison, who preceded her in death July 31, 1985. She was a 1958 graduate of Lincoln Memorial University, Harrogate, Tennessee, a retired Grady County teacher of 31 years, including Calvary (1944-1946), Reno (1946-1949), and Whigham School (1949-1975). She was a member of Tired Creek Primitive Baptist Church, joining in 1960. She was a member of Georgia Retired Teachers Association, Grady County Retired Teachers Association, Grady County Historical Society and previous member of the Gold K Club of Cairo. She was a native of Grady County, Georgia for many years before moving to Crawfordville to be with her daughter. She loved her family and enjoyed talking about the history of the Bryant-William-Maxwell Family of which she was a member.
Survivors include: a daughter, (Emma) Dell Harrison Speigner and husband, Don; grandson, Brian and wife, Nancy; great-grandchildren, Wade and Ashlyn, all of Crawfordville, FL; sister, Polly Ausburn Kincaid of Reno, GA; brother, Luther Ausburn (Pearl) of Reno, GA; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Harrison was preceded in death by: her parents, James Alexander (1937) and Ivey Delilah Bryant Ausburn (1956); her husband, Hugh D. Harrison (1985); sisters, Eva Ausburn Kelly (1988), Annie Elizabeth Ausburn Palmer (2000), and Maggie Ausburn Maxwell (2001); and brothers, George Pascal Ausburn (1906), Arthur Ausburn (1949), John Daniel Ausburn (1924), Archie Ausburn (1969), Anderson Ausburn (1991), and Ivey (Bo) Ausburn (2008); and two siblings who died at birth.
Funeral services are at 3:30 p.m., Thursday, March 23, 2017, at Tired Creek Primitive Baptist Church, Whigham, GA. Elder Jon Mizell and Rev. Jimmy Ausburn will officiate. Interment will be in Tired Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Whigham, GA.
Pallbearers will be her grandson, Brian Speigner, great grandson, Wade Speigner, nephews, (Norman Kincaid, Yancey Maxwell, Jerry Maxwell, Robert Maxwell, Ivy Ausburn, DeWayne Ausburn, Anderson Ausburn, Ben Ausburn, James Jenkins, and Jack Coffey.)
The family will receive friends at Tired Creek Primitive Baptist Church on Thursday, March 23, 2017, from 2:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m.
