The Marchant family originally hailed from France. They appeared to have settled in the Gloucester, England area for 100 years before Sarah Merchant / Marchant came into this world. Little is known about her at this time. Her age varies. She could have been born as early as 1772 or as late as 1776.

When she was in her early 20's, she married John Bee, born in Sevenhampton, Gloucester. John made his living as carpenter. She and John likely came from Sevenhampton to Northleach, prior to 1790.

All of the children are recorded as to have been born in Northleach. Unfortunately, at that time, living conditions contributing to mortality, were still high, and half of them do not appear to have reached adulthood.

Sarah and John spent the rest of their lives in Northleach. They were married 45 years. Sarah died in December, 1842. John Bee lived to 85 years of age, passing in 1856, in the town they came to over a half century earlier.

From census records and parish records, the children were:

. William Bee (abt. 1797 - aft. 1861)
. John Bee (abt. 1800 - 1839)
. James Bee (1800 - 1800)
. Mary Bee (bef. 1806 - 1886)
. Priscilla Bee (1806 - aft. 1891)
. Sarah Bee (1808 - 1809)
. Richard Bee (1809 - ?)
. Ann Bee (1811 - ?)
