Emil was the fifth child born to Anna and Louis Bergeron. His younger siblings were Albena, Alemina, Viola, Wilfred and Amelia. His older siblings were Ida, Joe, Eugene and George.

After completing the ninth grade Emil went to work. He worked in several different industries, the 1940 Census lists him as a magazine packer at a publishing company, the 1950 Census lists him as a key man in a farm implement sales plant, at the time of his death in 1975 he was working as a buyer.

He married Dorothy M Moisan sometime after the 1940 Census. The couple had at least two children Alfred J (b. about 1947) and Thomas Charles (b. 1957).
