She was a daughter of Karl Friedrich Hofmann and Johanne Christiane Driesnack, both German

On September 1873, she got married, aged 22, with Johann Alois Carl Strauss, aged 28, son of Wilhelm Ludwig Carl Strauss, at a cathedral in Schwerin, Mecklenburg, Germany

Their chidren were: Christiane Caroline 'Johanna', Minna (Minnie) Caroline Auguste and Margarete Dorothea Elisabeth Strauss, all born in Germany as well.

In the year 1890, Minna is counted, married, lutheran by religion, in a census for Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Germany,
born July 8, 1854 in Köningsbrück Sachsen (Saxony)

On September 29, 1896, Minna is shown in the New York Passenger Lists, aged 45, sailing on 'the Saale' coming from the port of Bremen with a Strauss child of about 13 years.

In the year 1900 she is counted, aged 50, widowed, with two daughters, Minnie (23) and Margarete (16), in a census for New York, residing at 23 Jackson street, Richmond, Staten Island. She states she is a mother of three living children and that she has been living in USA for 4 years.

On September 10, 1903, she arrives at New York, aged 52, coming from Cuxhaven, Germany to visit her daughter Minnie Strauss, in Stapleton, Staten Island. She states she has been in USA before.

In the year 1910, Minna is enumerated, aged 58, widowed, in a census for the same place as above, residing with 2 daughters: Margaret D. Otto (26), her son-in-law, Henry Otto (35), her grandaughter, Dorothy M. Otto (1), her other daughter, Minnie Burghardt (33) and her son-in-law, George Burghardt (35)

In 1920, at her 68 years of age, widowed, she is again counted in a census for the same location, residing with a further daughter, Johanna Bruns (48), widowed as well.

In the following next cenci she was counted: years 1925, aged 77 and in 1940, aged 86, always living with close relatives in the same house. By the year 1925 she has lived in USA for 28 years.

Minna is found travelling back and forth, between the port of Veracruz and New York, in the years 1916, 1923, 1928 and 1930. She used to visit her daughter Margaret and her husband, George Burghardt, who resided temporarily in Mexico for work.

Finally in 1940, she is counted, aged 88, widowed, still as an alien, in a census for the same location as above, living with her daughter Minnie Burghardt (65) single, her son-in-law, Henry George Otto (65) married, architect by occupation and her daughter Margarete Dorothea D. Otto (53) married as well.

Her siblings were: Christiane Auguste and Friedrich Otto Hofmann

Minna died aged 93 and though her demise occurred at Staten Island, she was cremated at the Rosehill Cemetery, in Linden, New Jersey and her cremated remains were removed and buried at the Moravian's

I have found a Minna Strauss cremated at our facility on Feb. 6, 1945. Her cremated remains were picked up by the Schaefer Funeral Home on Feb. 10, 1945 - Joanne LaGreca Rosehill Crematory Supervisor.
