Christian was the third of nine children of farmer Milton and Barbara Bear/Bair/Bare Crow, born in Putnam Co., OH, 28 Oct 1841. In 1850, his family had moved to Prairie, Kosciusko, Indiana. In 1860, they were living in Westfield, Fayette Co., Iowa, Post Office at Corn Hill. Christian's mother died at this location on 5 March 1860.

US CIVIL WAR Sources: 71. UNION. Christian Crow, Age at Enlistment: 19; Enlistment Date 20 May 1861; Private; IOWA; Did Not Survive War; Enlisted in Company F, IOWA, 3rd Infantry Regiment on 08 June 1861. Mustered out on 25 Feb 1862 at Mexico, MO. Born about 1842.--Roster & Record of Iowa Soldiers in the War of Rebellion.

Note: There were about 200 Union and Confederate soldiers who died in battle at Mexico, Missouri and were buried at the Elmwood Cemetery of that location. Christian is not listed on the US Dept of Veteran Affairs Nationwide Gravesite Locator. But his remains are buried here as other records state.

Christian's brothers Calvin P. Crow and Abraham T. Crow enlisted together after Christian's death, and on 28 Nov 1862. Calvin also did not survive the war, but died of malaria 03 Oct 1863 in New Orleans, Orleans Parish Co., Louisianna. Abraham survied the war, but remained in Fayette County, Iowa after the war when his father and some siblings moved to Audubon County, Iowa.
