Mr. Lyon was born January 20, 1923 in Wilkes County to Toliver J. and Parthenia Cheeks Lyon.
Mr. Lyon was a Veteran of the U.S. Army serving during WWII and served in the 4th Calvary in California, France and England.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Margie Ann Barker Lyon; daughter, Teresa Vaughn; brother, Chester Lyon and sisters, Mamie Sexton, Ada Durham, Maude Hincher and Flora Lyon.
Survivors include: sons, Curtis Lyon and wife Peggy of Hamptonville, Wade Lyon and wife Becky of Elkin and Dale Lyon and wife Tammy of Traphill; daughters, Margaret Vaughn and husband Hurley of Ennice, Hilda Adams and husband Steve of Ronda, Jean Blackburn and husband Aaron of Elkin, Darlene Nichols and husband Bill of Berea, KY and Billie Joe Nixon and husband Darrell of Traphill; brother, Lawrence Lyon and wife Juanita of Traphill; special nephews, Ray Durham, Mickey Durham and wife Linda; twenty grandchildren; twenty-eight great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held Thursday February 9, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Elkin Funeral Service Chapel. Burial will follow at Old Roaring River Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
