Obituary from p. 28 of the 17 AUG 1955 edition of the “South Bend Tribune”:
. Aloysius A. Was, 1634 W. Forest Ave., died unexpectedly at 2:45 am today in St. Joseph Hospital, He was born in South Bend Oct. 26, 1906. On Sept. 25, 1929, he was married to Miss Mary Mindykowski, who survives. He was an employe of the St. Vincent de Paul Society Retail Store. Surviving beside the wife are four daughters, Mrs. Richard Wegner, and the Misses Barbara, Patricia and Sally Lou Was, all of South Bend; two sons, Frater Vernard, O.S.M., of Lake Geneva, Wis., and Michael of South Bend; a sister, Mrs. Joseph Wegner, and two brothers, Casimer and John Was, and two grandchildren. Friends may call after 7 p.m. today in the St. Joseph Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday in St. Stanislaus' Catholic Church. Rev. Zigmund Jankowski, C.S.C., pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph Polish Cemetery. Was was a member of the St. Vincent De Paul and Holy Name societies of St. Stanislaus Parish.
