(Plot marker only, no headstone). Wife of William M. Garrett. Daughter of Cornelius Grider and Mary Ann (Tankersley) Grider. Niece of Richard Franklin (R. F.) Tankersley, prominent early settler of the Dove Creek region of the Concho Valley. Martha was also half-sister to George Washington (G. W.) Kemp, an early settler of the Paint Rock area. Martha met and married William Garrett, a freighter/teamster and Confederate veteran, in 1872. They lived in Paint Rock until the late 1890s when they moved to San Angelo. Martha and William raised twelve children born over a 30 year period in Paint Rock and San Angelo.

Martha was widowed in 1912, with four school age children still in the home. Her oldest daughter Rossye, a well-known dressmaker, helped Martha raise the younger children, and also helped in caring for several grandchildren who lived with Mrs. Garrett in her later years. Martha wad injured in an accidental fall at her residence, which left her bed/wheelchair ridden for her last twelve years. Her grandchildren attended to her needs as she had once attended theirs.
