Son of William M. Garrett and Martha (Grider) Garrett of San Angelo Texas. Grandnephew of prominent early West Texas pioneer R F Tankersley. Survived an accident which killed his father (a wagon driver) when their team ran away after being scared by an automobile in 1912.

Rites Here For Former Citian, Percy Garrett

Percy E. Garrett, owner of Garrett Lumber Company here for 20 years before moving to McAllen, died at 4 a.m. Wednesday at the Gulf Coast Medical Center in Wharton. He was 67 years old.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today from the First Methodist Church in Bay City. Rev. Larry Stokes of Wharton and Rev. Leslie Scott of Bay City will officiate. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park.

Survivors are five sisters, Miss Rossye Garrett, Miss Hattie Tom Garrett, Mrs. Paul Taylor, and Mrs. Bernice Sanders, all of San Angelo, and Mrs. Georgie Thompson of Bakersfield, Calif., and three brothers, H.W. Garrett of Bay City and Ben Garrett of Phoenix, Ariz.; 14 nieces and 11 nephews.

Garrett, a native of San Angelo, was preceded in death by his wife in April 1964.

Pallbearers for the services will be Henry Hildreth, John Owen, O.B. Stanley, E.J. Brueggen, Kenneth Nelson and Glen White. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Wesley Class of the First Methodist Church.
