Laura Ann was the daughter of Sturges Penfield, (son of John Penfield & Eunice Ogden) & Laura Giddings, (daughter of Jonathan C. Giddings and Mary Herrick Baldwin). She was the fifth of a family of twelve children that survived.
In 1832 she graduated from the Hartford Female Seminary in Hartford, CT and married George Washington Harmon, Esq. (son of Nathaniel Harmon & Alice Hascall) on October 12, 1836, in Pittsford, Rutland, VT. The couple had one child:
~Henry A. Harmon (1845-1922)
