She was a non-graduate of Mt. Holyoke College and studied there under the founder, Mary Lyons, in 1847.
Katherine lived with her sister, Laura Ann, from 1866 to 1898. After the death of Laura Ann's husband, George Washington Harmon, in 1898, the two returned to live in Pittsford. On returning to Pittsford, she became active in the local library, the Friday Club, a literary club, as well as the Congregational Church which she had joined in 1858. Katherine also compiled a good family history. Katherine never married or had children.
