GRAND MEADOW -- Fredrick A. Baldus, age 83, of Grand Meadow, Minn., died March 19, 2007 at the Golden Living Center in Ottertail, Minn.
Fredrick Baldus was born in October of 1923 to Leo and Mildred Baldus in Boone, Iowa. The family moved several times before reaching the farm in rural Grand Meadow. Fred attended and graduated from Elkton High School in Elkton, Minn. After school he farmed with his parents until he joined the Merchant Marines during World War II. On April 7, 1947, Fred married Ella Strickland at the St. Finbarr Catholic Church. They farmed a short time in Oakland, Minn. before moving to Grand Meadow in 1951 where they farmed and had a dairy herd until 1968. Fred then went to work for Federal Crop Insurance as an adjuster until his retirement in 2003.
Fred's greatest joys were spending time and visiting with family and friends.
Fred is survived by his five children: Sandra Quarles, of San Antonio, Texas; Dennis (Wanda) Baldus, of Victoria, Minn.; Leo (Pam) Baldus, of Beaver Dam, Wis.; Connie (Bob) Jennings, of Ottertail, Minn.; and Patricia (Steve) Burch, of Olathe, Colo.; 16 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three brothers: Lavern (Jo) Baldus, of Yuma, Ariz.; LeRoy (Theresa) Baldus, Austin; Alvin (Lolly) Baldus, of Menomonie, Wis.; sister, Rosella Klingfus, of Longmont, Colo.; and special friend, Jean Temanson, of Dexter, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ella; brothers, Wilbert and Everett; and sister, Florence Deerman.
Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, March 22, 2007 at the Hindt Funeral Home in Grand Meadow, Minn., and one hour prior to the service at the church. There will be a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 23, 2007 at St. Finbarr Catholic Church in Grand Meadow, with Father Steve Peterson officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
