Everett N. Baldus, 84, died Tuesday, November 15, 2005 at the Madrid Home.

Everett Nicholas Baldus was born in rural Boone County, IA on Febuary 3, 1921. His parents were Leo Baldus and Mildred Corbin Baldus. Everett was the grandson of Theodore Baldus of Story County, and great grandson of Christian Baldus who emigrated from the Stokem Nassau, Germany.

Everett graduated from Austin Minnesota High School in 1939. He served as a machinist in the U.S. Navy on the submarine tender, USS Griffin in the Pacific Theater during WWII. Everett married Evelyn Subra in 1946, and they had two children, Dianne Bierl and Larry Baldus. Everett was employed as a livestock buyer for the George A. Hormel Co. for 35 years at Austin and Edgerton, MN and Algona, Fort Dodge and Eldora, IA.

He was active in city government in the communities of Algona and Eldora, and served as mayor of Eldora from 1986 to 1993. He was active in the Ankeny Toastmasters, and served on the Board of Directors of the Maple Wood Village Association in Ankeny. Everett was a member of Our Ladies of Immaculate Catholic Church in Ankeny, the VFW and American Legion.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Mildred Baldus; his brother, Wilbert; sister, Florence; and a grandson, Douglas Bierl. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; daughter and son-in-law, Dianne and Russell Bierl of Ankeny and son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Laurie Baldus of Lake Ozark, MO; brothers, Fred of Grand Meadow, MN, Alvin and wife Lally of Menomonie, WI, Roy and Theresa of Frazee, MN, Vern and Jo of Phoenix, AZ, and sister, Rosella Klingfus of Longmont, CO; five grandchildren, Pam McColley, Steven McColley, Rachelle Hinrichs, Mitchell Bierl and Ross Bierl; and two great grandchildren.
