Merida was the son of Benjamin Toney and Mary Amanda Varnado Fisher Jr. He married Mary Elizabeth Walters about 1895 in Franklinton. They were the parents of John Morris "Jack" Fisher, Lewis Eugene Fisher, Sandy Iddo Fisher, William Levie Fisher, and an adopted son, James Billy Fisher. Gene and Lizzie came to Texas between 1910 and 1920, settling first in Smith County then Anderson County. All of their children were born in Franklinton except Billy who was born in Cross Roads, Henderson Co, TX. He died in Dallas, TX and is buried beside his wife.

PALESTINE, Texas, Nov. 29
Funeral services for M. E. Fisher, 57, who died in Dallas, were held Saturday at the Holly Springs Cemetery. The Rev. Charles Simpson, Baptist minister, conducted the services. Mr. Fisher is survived by his widow; four sons, Jack, Lewis, Sandy and Levie Fisher, all of Dallas, and one daughter, Mrs. Ida Williams of Palestine.
